New in the Trading API Docs: A Short Tutorial about Getting Tokens

A new tutorial shows a simple case of an application getting a token for a subscribing user. It includes the setup of the consent flow, the user's view of the consent form, and the calls the application makes to get the token.

Please check out the tutorial and tell us what you think of this new format. Would you like to see more API workflow tutorials? What tasks/workflows would you like us to document? Use the "User-Contributed Notes" section at the bottom of each tutorial to give us your feedback.

Cloudstock-640x480 We're heading to Cloudstock! Right now, top-flight developers are innovating at the leading edge of cloud computing using powerful platforms, APIs, and services that you may not even know exist. That’s because the next generation of cloud development is being invented fast and furiously by a slew of companies, big and small, delivering key technologies ranging from tiny but key single-purpose services to large and powerful platforms in the cloud.

Cloudstock is an entirely new event designed for one purpose: To bring the top cloud developers and the top cloud technologies together under one roof, to learn from each other, collaborate, innovate, and drive the future of cloud computing. This open, meetup style, free event will feature sessions, demo stations, socializing, and a hackathon, all delivered in a hip, developer friendly context.

Cloudstock will be held in San Francisco at the Moscone West Convention Center on December 6, 2010 in conjuction with the Salesforce Cloud Developer Conference, Dreamforce. We'll be there all day presenting an introduction to the eBay API and answering and questions you may have.

What to expect:

  • 40+ cloud technical sessions – attend sessions from cloud telephony to cloud development platforms sessions
  • Demo stations – see some of the latest cloud technologies in action
  • The Cloudstock Hackathon – pit your coding skills against other developers and build solutions that bridge the clouds
  • Networking – meet your peers and the cloud service providers
  • Have some Gaming fun in the Gaming Arcade

New Tutorials for the Trading API

The following three new tutorials have been added to the Trading API documentation:

Each tutorial uses a sequence of XML call samples to demonstrate a specific API workflow to accomplish a typical task. These tutorials illustrate the purpose of API calls and their constraints and dependencies when used together.

Please check them out and tell us what you think of this new format. Would you like to see more API workflow tutorials? What tasks/workflows would you like us to document? Use the "User-Contributed Notes" section at the bottom of each tutorial to give us your feedback.

Thanks.

Open Data Protocol and the eBay API

OData-logo We at eBay are always on the lookout for new technology and innovation to work with, add to our repertoire and introduce to you, our developers.

Most recently, we have been looking into The Open Data Protocol (OData), whic  h is a Web protocol for querying and updating data that provides a way to unlock your data and free it from silos that exist in applications today. OData offers a standardized way for programmable data to be made available across the web.

To learn more about the OData protocol, you can browse the OData site or read this brief Q&A.

Last week, at Microsoft ‘s Professional Developers Conference, an implementation of the OData protocol built upon the eBay’s existing APIs like Findings and Trading was demoed during the first keynote. This was the first public showing of this implementation.

Want to learn more? Go to the eBay OData API documentation page to get additional information about this particular implementation and how to consume data from eBay but in this case taking advantage of the OData protocol.
