2007 DevCon Affiliates Day - Life Just Got Easier
A central message of eBay Affiliates Day last week in Boston was with eBay placing more focus on buy-side expansion, it only makes sense to reduce technical barriers to entry as much as possible, as well as increase the financial incentives for affiliate developers. This means life just got a little easier for affiliates who wish to ramp up business by leveraging eBay Affiliate Developer Program.
Matt Ackley, Vice President of eBay Internet Marketing, opened the event by speaking candidly about the crucial role each eBay affiliate developer plays in making the off-eBay shopping experience better, and how we have come a long way to give affiliate developers the best web services platform that enables innovation like never before. To help drive off-eBay shopping experience and eBay omnipresence, Lily Shen, Director of eBay Affiliate Program, have upped the commission payout to a maximum of $35 per active confirmed registered user, and a maximum of 75% revenue share.

But the 75% revenue share only best reward affiliate developers who provide significant value-add to the eBay “it” factor through innovation. Hence why Rob Cross, Senior Manager of eBay Developers Program, was thrilled to present the first token-less eBay web services platform named “Shopping Web Services.” It is designed to break down affiliates’ technical barrier to entry and to drastically improve operating speed that ultimately translate to broader distributed commerce and shopping experience diversification. To make life even easier, Rob showed off the open source demo widgets powered by the Shopping Web Services designed to help affiliates jump start new ways to spread eBay’s ever growing contents. And to top things off, Rob reinforced eBay’s intention to expand and diversify its off eBay shopping experiences by reminding affiliate developers that the PlaceOffer API has been opened up (once your application has been confirmed to conform with eBay policies) to help developers build more innovative and complete shopping experiences. After all, 50,000+ brains are better than… well, you get the point.
