Excited about joining the Developers Program
I’m Max Mancini, Senior Director of Platform and Innovation at eBay, and the new head of the eBay Developers Program. I’ve been admiring this program from afar and I’m thrilled to be able to join Adam and Rob and the rest of the folks here who have made this program a success. We’re up to 45,000 members now! I look forward to meeting you all and working with you to ensure your success.
As many of you know, eBay has a history of being a very innovative company. Much of what we’ve done here at eBay has never been done before, so in a way we’ve been forced to innovate just to keep up with the growth of the marketplace. Our real-time search engine and robust web services platform are just two examples of innovative technology we’ve built to support the growth of the business and enable third party innovators such as you.
That said, we are stepping up our investment in innovation internally. We recently established a new team focused on accelerating what we call Disruptive Innovation. The Disruptive Innovation team was created with a specific purpose in mind: explore new concepts and create new tools to allow our 222 million buyers, sellers and developers to make better use of the eBay platform. As you can imagine, it would only be natural for this team to work closely with the eBay Developers Program team, to identify ways we can work together to achieve this goal.
As the new director for both of these teams, I’ve put a great deal of thought into our priorities for 2007, and I’d like to share some of them with you:
First, we want to make it easier for you to develop your applications. We will be releasing new SDKs, more technical resources, and some cool new technologies for you to take advantage of to create new programs for eBay buyers and sellers.
Second, we plan to expand the possibilities for new buyer tools by giving you more APIs that enable them. Historically we’ve been focused on enabling better seller tools, and we know there’s more we can do to enable exciting new buy-side applications – we just have to provide you with the right tools.
Last, we want to work more closely with you to enable your success. We have various activities planned throughout the year to foster closer ties with our Developers Program members, and it is my personal mission to meet with as many of you as possible to learn more about what we can do to further your growth.
With that, I invite you to drop me an email to introduce yourself at mmancini AT ebay.com.
Thanks and I look forward to a great year with all of you!
Wondering if eBay could provide RSS feeds in Media RSS format for a richer user experience.
Our product, Newsbliss is based on Media RSS and would work well for buyers.
Let me know.
