MashupCamp 2 in Mountain View
Adam and I had a great time at MashupCamp 2 at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California last week. There were lots of shopping mashups on display, and another big theme was presence and location APIs. Congratulations to the winner of the best mashup contest: WeatherBonk - a traffic, weather, and maps mashup. Also congrats to the runner-up: Hot Captcha - a tasteless but funny alternative to text captchas that mashes up pictures from hotornot.com. Also check out Frucall (product price info over the phone), Frappr (maps for MySpace), and LicketyShip (same day local shipping) -- three startups that I really liked.
Here is Damon Williams from PayPal voting for his favorite mashup:
Remember that eBay web services are great for mashups, since they are free, provide great functionality, and are licensed to allow commercial use. The next Mashup Camp should happen later this year in Boston, and it would be great to see some more eBay mashups in attendence.
